Helping Autistic Child Get Organized

Children who develop good organizational skills are significantly more likely to succeed in school and life. This is particularly important for autistic children. When they learn good organizational skills, their focus, concentration and motor skills are developing well. Organization may be more difficult with children in the autism spectrum, because they are easily distracted and usually have limited motor skills.

Autistic children are usually visual learners, which means that they do learn and perform better when provided with visual instructions and tips. Here are four tips on how you can help your child be organized to develop skills and make a smooth transition between activities using visual instruction and prompts.

These tips will vary depending on the child’s age and ability. You can use it as a reference guide and adjust as necessary.

# 1 – Create a simple to use and maintain bin system for the delivery of their child, and toys. Certain types of toys and supplies in separate containers. Take pictures of each type of toy or food contained in the tape and photograph that, prior to each respective bin.

For example: Place a photo of your child’s Lego bin, which contains the Lego. Do the same with markers, stuffed toys, pencils, and so on. Even if the tank (clear), it will be easier for your child to be organized, if he / she has a visual cue about where their toys or materials belong. Select bins with lids, or easily removed without the cover.

# 2 – The display clothing. It’s easier for all babies and young children, especially autistic children, to stay organized and function, if they can see their stuff. Boxes are usually not suitable for children from the autism spectrum. If you must use boxes, tape the picture to front of each box that corresponds to what is in the box. Possible not to combine the elements into one box, but if you have to put in the walls. Hang as many of their clothes as possible. Fold the rest and place them on the shelves, preferably in the cubbies. Place of jeans in a comfortable, t-shirts in another, and so on. Socks, underwear and sleepwear better placed in a transparent bins with photos taped to the front.

# 3 – Setting up the daily routine and stick to them as much as you can. Creating and after regular daily procedures can make the transition from one activity to another less precipitation for you baby. Children on the autism spectrum often thrive when they are routine and are generally poorly responsive to changes in the procedure. After a solid process in place, small changes can be introduced slowly. Introducing small changes can really help your child develop coping strategies to deal with transitions. It is best to make changes in procedure in very small steps. Gradually, your child will be able to use the strategy as a social history and self talk to work through the anxiety they experience when making transitions.

Easily organizing routine – Give your child a 10-minute one-on-one before each meal, and then ask them a lot of egg timer for 10 minutes. Teach them that when the timer fires, they must get up all their toys, crafts and supplies and put them in appropriate containers.

This small, everyday activities a routine, enables your child know what to expect, giving them 10-minute time, and then provides them with a variety of audio key when it came time to pick up and get organized. It is important to ask your children to set a timer egg, and not you. This forces them to participate more actively in the process, and they will be more inclined to follow through.

effective communication

There are people who do not have any problems expressing themselves. They have the innate ability to talk and think they have the right to happen in any possible situation, communicating with people from different professions and different interests. Regardless of if you belong to this group of people or not, you should know that the relationship is that you can learn. Role playing is one of the greatest ways to improve your communication skills. And unlike RPG games, this is associated with an active speaking and listening is not only quiet imitation potential of nature.

At first it was thought that a message saying, but in reality, this process involves more than listening to mention. The point is to actually release their own thoughts, ideas and admiring the views of the interlocutor and back. Communication frequently breaks down when someone more immersed in his thoughts and think about ways in which it will transfer them. In this situation, it’s actually not a good percentage of what the other person transportation.

When you are speaker, no matter when it comes to business or personal life, it’s always important to create scenarios where you have a message that you need to transfer to another person. For practices that have created scripts in the relevant fields – a situation with an angry customer fight with his girlfriend … Work to be clear and concise in your language and be prepared for times when you encounter obstacles, differences or objections to the other side. The purpose of the speaker beyond emotional outbursts.

The second role of the role of the receiver. If you are emotionally involved in what happens, your mind from thought to thought, as you desperately try to get ideas and arguments. You should refer to the courtroom. There, people can not speak out of turn, so you can keep a laptop to take notes or simply listen and take what man says. Then you will have the opportunity to speak to relay your opinion and be aware that they will always be better defined, when you listen to another person. The same rule is important to listen and to say, having emotional outbursts, even in his own mind, can destroy effective communication.

In the previous example was a courtroom, but in ordinary life is not as normal communication operation. People engaged in effective communication give and take – you say, and I listen and when completed the thought, the other person says about what you just said. This can lead to confusion in the first role-playing, but try to limit the time a person has the right to speak. This is an effective way to teach finishing thoughts, and not the entire conversation before the other person says.
